What is influence?

Dear friend,

This is the first issue of the Daily Influential newsletter. The goal of this newsletter is to help you build real influence in whatever it is that you do.

If you’re a founder, CEO, an executive, or an ambitious professional, this will be your journey to becoming better at influencing others in ways that have almost been forgotten in the age of AI and TikTok.

The goal is not to just share a strategy or tactic that will help you get more followers.

My intention is to help you become an influential person for real.

To do that, we first need to define: what is influence?

I think that influence means a different thing to different people.

A startup founder might be interested in building influence in order to raise funds from angel investors and VCs in order to build their idea. A politician’s idea of influence is to get more voters and people to join his cause. A new marketer’s idea of influence is to learn the right skills in order to be exceptional at their job and make sure they are bringing results.

Influence means different things to different people, BUT the principles you learn are universal and can be applied regardless of where you are in your life or the purpose (although I hope you’ll never use what you learn in this newsletter for negative things).

So my definition of influence is this:

The combination of skills, experience, and reputation that allows a person to live life on their own terms, achieve their ultimate goal regardless of where they are right now, and protect themselves from people and circumstances that might cause hardship.

Influence is not something you learn by watching a course over the weekend or if you invest a lot of money. Influence is not having 30k followers on LinkedIn or 2m views on your Instagram reel.

It’s exactly what I defined earlier. Platforms and algorithms change. The market shifts based on geopolitics and technology. Real influence is when you are able to confidently navigate troubled waters and continue to live well and to provide for your family.

That’s why in this newsletter we will explore a lot of topics and stories across different disciplines, but the goal will always be to become more influential.

The good thing about influence is that it compounds.

You will become a better decision-maker and will be able to react in much better ways if you feed your subconscious for a few minutes a day with quality and valuable information.

Every day I will share something with you, to help you become more influential.

Today, I suggest you write down my definition of influence above, and elaborate it in your own way, what influence means to you personally.

See you tomorrow,

Gent

P.S. Remember, the more influential you are, the easier your life will get.
